Passive sentence using 'get' and 'help'

1) I got Michael to host the reception = Michael was gotten to host the reception (??)

2) He helped her (to) complete the assignment = She was helped to complete the assignment by him(??) I think two passive sentences using 'get' and 'help' each are ungrammatical. But, I don't know whyCould you explain why these are ungrammatical and teach me alternative sentences to them

Top answer

Hoony 1) I got Michael to host the reception. I don't see the passive as ungrammatical, but English speakers would find it too awkward to use. It can be made less awkward by substituting 'persuaded' for 'gotten'.

  • Hoony 2) He helped her (to) complete the assignment I don't see the passive here as ungrammatical either, and it's nowhere near as awkward as the passive of your first example.
