Passive Language in Technical Reports

Hello
I'm currently writing a technical report and i am slightly getting annoyed with Word highlighting my words stating its too passive.

My question is - is it okay to use Passive language in a technical report. here is a sample sentence:

"The provision of bicycle spaces was reviewed against the North Kellyville Precinct DCP and confirmed appropriate for the developments size"

I look forward to everyone's feedback.

I'm guessing the complaint is generated because the passive voice provides fewer facts than the active voice. " In politics or polite society, on the other hand, the passive voice is often deliberately chosen in order to avoid naming names. The listener or reader is left to guess at the details.

It's often critical in technical reports to include information about the "actor."

What you have written is fine and reads like many other professional reports. Better to say 'confirmed as appropriate'. Also you missed out the apostrophe in development - it should be the development's size.

Edit. I agree with your corrections.

I don't always choose to correct the question itself as long as the meaning is clear. Others do.
(Just lazy, I guess.

AvangiAs an aside, may I inquire about "You missed out the apostrophe"? Is it a British usage?
