Hey,I have a problem with the passiv speech.Active in the present with "must"Joe must pay the bill.Passiv in the present with "must"The bill must be paid.Active in the past with "must":Joe had to paid the bill (last week).Passiv in the past with "must"The bill had to be paid last week.(without was paid ???)Active in the future with "must":Joe will have to pay the billActive in the future with "must":The bill will have to be paid.Is the transcription for "must" in the past and future all right?Thanks for help.Jan

That's "passive".

The bill must be paid (by Joe).

Joe had to have paid the bill last week. (Joe pad the bill) OR

Joe had to pay the bill last week. (Joe did not pay the bill)

Which do you mean?

The bill had to have been paid by Joe last week. (Joe piad it) OR

The bill had to be paid by Joe last week. (Joe didn't pay it)

The is no passive with "must" in the sense of "to have to" (obligation).

Joe must pay the bill. (present and future).
[nq:1]Active in the future with "must": The bill will have to be paid.[/nq]
There is no future passive with "must".

Considering that there are no past or future forms of "must", the lack of them in your post is fine.

"Have to" requires an infinitive.

Right, without "was." "Have to" requires an infinitive, in this case, "to be."

We have no form of "must" in the past that's why we switch to "have to" or similar ("was required to"...)
Most of us would think of "Joe must pay the bill" and "The bill must be paid" as relating to the future. But strictly speaking, you're right that "must" isn't a future form; you can't say "will must."
