There's also a famous saying in the U.S. that "The buck stops here," supposedly said by Harry Truman. That means that he would take responsibility for whatever the situation was.

I believe the expression comes from card games where there was a silver dollar kept on the table to indicate who the "banker" was. When that player no longer wanted the responsibility, he passed the dollar ("buck") to somebody else.
