Passing by/remember by

Could you tell me how to correct these please?

- The movie passes by quickly when you're not the one watching it.

- I have only my son to to remember my late husband by.

Could you tell me what you think of these please?

- The boat was not made to withstand such a crash.

- I can't make an exception for my daughter/because she's my daughter.

- I had to cope with the people who would make/allow me to benefit from...

- He learnt to pilot a boat around the time kids learn to ride a bike.

3. 'cope' seems to be not the word you intend. It means 'to deal with (something negative)'.

4. the two 'learn' should be in the same tense.

The double "to" is incorrect. If you meant only a single "to" then the sentence is correct, if you meant the double "to" then it is not correct.

Good catch, Ray. I missed the "double to"; my brain probably saw it as a typo without telling me about it.
