Passing air through

Hello,

Are my sentences proper?

Bats make sounds by passing air through their noise and vocal cords. the sounds move like waves and bounce off any object they come across. Then bats listen to the echo. By processing returning echoes they can differentiate a living being from an inanimate object.

Thank you in advance.
