Passed through between

"The bullet passed through the gap between his middle finger and index finger."
How can we rephrase this sentence ?
1. The bullet passed from between his two fingers.
2. The bullet passed through between his two fingers.

"The bullet passed/went between two of his fingers."

But this could also mean that the bullet went to and fro between the two fingers, which doesn't seem to make sense when we are talking about fingers.
But if I said "The bullet went between the two poles", wouldn't it mean that the bullet went from one pole to another ?
