passed down? handed down?

Hi, would you please tell me if there is any difference between 'passed down' and 'handed down'?

Those local productions have been handed (passed) down for generations.

I'd say 'handed down' is used more for tangible objects like jewellery, regalia, photographs and documents. Traditions, ceremonies and productions are more often said to be 'passed down', though there's some overlap.
