Passed

Hi,

" The arrests came at the end of a march of about 500 protesters who marched passed banks and other financial institutions." [From The Telegraph.]

What is the meaning of the word "passed" in the sentence?

Thank you.

I think it's a type, what's actually meant is that they marched past banks and othe rinfancial institutions. It's an easy mistake to make since past and passed sound exactly the same.

Hi,

It's an easy mistake to make since past and passed sound exactly the same.

It's one of those mistakes that is easy for an English learner to make, but a rather shocking error for a reasonably literate native speaker to make.
