Pass off

Ravindra Jadeja may not be the ‘perfect all-rounder’ M.S. Dhoni is looking for, but he’s for sure not one of the several part-timers trying to pass off as one. That his showings in Sunday’s super thriller earned him the Man-of-the-Match award ahead of the near-perfect all-round performance by Jacques Kallis, the master of the trade, is but a small indicator of his potential and promise.

Could you please explain to me what "pass off" means here?

From a dictionary, "pass of" means "to happen" but it doesn't fit quite well here.
