Pass an exam as a guide

Dear Friends,

Suppose you are doing a course because you want to be a guide. After a successful exam can I say:

I passed an exam as a guide?

(because if you pass an exam AS a guide, it means that you are already a guide - before pasing the exam)

You want: I passed an exam to be a guide.

Note that guide is a bit too generic. More authentic speech would include information about the type of guide. Did you mean tourist guide? museum guide?
