"party" as a verb

Hi.

There's a scene in some TV show that I don't quite understand. I wonder if you could help me.

There's someone who tells his friend:

"Let's party..."

his friend doesn't let him finish the sentence and shouts at him:

"Don't you dare use the word "party" as a verb in this shop!" and all the crowd laugh.

what is so funny about that?

Thanks.

Hi, Using the noun 'party' as a verb is on the way to becoming standard English one day, but at the moment is considered substandard by many people who love English. Clive
