"The shocked daughter asks why he did this, to which Karnad says -- in the voice of a fine actor ambushed by a paycheque -- that someone has to stand up." I read the above at Rediff.com Please check if I have got the right parts of speech analysis:
"The shocked daughter"-subject , "why he did this "- a noun phrase acting as an object, " asks"- main verb. " to which" -? Do not know the grammatical function, "Karnard" - subject, "says"-verb "In the voice of a fine actor"- ? And what is the grammatical function of the whole clause? "Ambushed by a physique "- past participle
"That someone has to stand up" - noun clause acting as an object to " says" What is "that" here? I am learning to write longer sentences. Thanks Jignesh
