Parts of Speech

Hi All
I need help. I'm working on a pre- course assignment and here is a sentence where I'm stuck. I have to identify different parts of speech in the following sentences.
" A small dog ran quickly down the road. It rounded the corner and vanished from my sight."
Now the problem is that the choices given DO NOT include any PREPOSITION. The choices I have are as follows:
NOUNS, VERBS, ADJECTIVES, ADVERBS, ARTICLES, CONJUNCTIONS, PRONOUNS
While in the given sentences 'down' and 'from' are clearly prepositions (as they are a part of prepositional phrases' ) can they be identified as some other part of speech? Adverb maybe? Thanks

ummzak Now the problem is that the choices given DO NOT include any PREPOSITION. However, the sentence contains two: 'down' and 'from'. ummzak can they be identified as some other part of speech?

  • No, those words cannot, but their prepositional phrases ('down the road' and 'from my sight') are indeed adverbials.

Exactly...Those are adverbials. So the closest correct answer would be 'adverbs', given the choices that are given. Thanks so much for responding.
