Particular use of 'would'

Hi there,

Is the following imaginary example / sentence correct?

I would like swimming if somebody hadn't made me hate doing it when I was young.

1. I guess it is possible but the expression 'would like to do something' is so common that it 'shadows' this much less used form (of course it is something else if we consider its meaning). So first I'm just curious if/whether it is possible at all.

2. Please correct my sentence if it contains mistakes.
