Does this sentence make sense? Does 'the particulars' work fine in the sentence?

The doctor explained to the patient about the particulars of the surgery.

Yes, I would write that way too. But for now, I'm thinking about the word 'particular' and the variation of it.

Two questions:

#1:Does the article 'the' in front of 'particulars' necessary? Would it work without it?
