Participle phrase
In the past several years, astronomers have detected more than 80 massive planets, most of them at least as large as Jupiter, circling other stars.
What does circling other stars. modify ? should n't it modify verb have detected? if so would n't this sentence be illogical.but according to my book it s correct.. Please help me?

circling other stars is a participle modifier thus to my understanding any -ing modifier preceded by comma is an adverbial modifier and should modify the action of the previous clause... Is my understanding wrong.. Can you please elaborate further... there is whole bunch of word

I thought mostly at least as large as Jupiter as an adverbial modifier (which I believe modifiers have detected) ;most of them at least as large as is adjectival modifier and is attached to planets..If so will it not change the meaning.. or is my analysis wrong?

I see both of the final phrases as adjectival, describing 'sweaters'. The word 'mostly' is an adverb modifying the adjective 'red'.
