Participle form of verb

I saw him, hiding myself behind the car.

Is the above sentence correct when meaning 'I, hiding myself behind the car, saw him'?

Usually the participle form of verb is placed right after the subject or object it's referring to. Yet, the former confuses me because the sentence below would be correct( although the context is very different):

He left his home, denying his family.

Please help!
