partialed out, prereading skills

Hello,

I do not understand this:

Research has shown that knowledge of nursery rhymes among three-year-olds was a significant predictor of later prereading skills even after the childrens´ IQ and their mothers´ educational levels were partialed out.

Could "partial out" mean "take into account"? - If scientists considered also the IQ and their mothers´levels, the knowledge of rhymes was still an important thing in the development of prereading skills.

What are prereading skills. I can imagine the skill of reading, but what are prereading skills?

Thank you for your help Mowgli

  • So it means 'removed' rather than 'taken into account'.
  • I would perhaps have said 'factored out' or 'allowed for'.
