"Part-time job as/ as a"...

1) "He's looking for a part-time job as porter" / 2) "he's looking for a part-time job as A student."
The way I see it, 1) means that you want to apply for a porter job; 2) means that you are NOW a student and want to get a (here not specified) job. The difference would be in the "A" article.
Is this correct?
