Part of speech of the phrase

Hi everyone,

I just read this sentence in my dictionary.

"I could see the other car about half a mile ahead of us."

I am not sure what part of speech the phrase "about half a mile ahead of us" is.

Is it an adverb modifying the verb "see", telling the reader where I saw the car?

Is it an adjective modifying the car, showing the reader where the car is?

Also, would anyone please help me ccorrect my grammatical mistakes if there's any.

Thank you very much

Kenny
