How would you write theis? I don't know if another word is better than these 2?

He is the player that was part of the scandal.

He is the player that was in the scandal. He's the one that cheated on his wife

Could you tell me which you would say or how you would say it?

Pretty much the same as you would see elsewhere: both phrases are commonly constructed.
