Part 2, revising wrong sentences

Please revise the following wrong sentences into the right ones.

[1] I didn't have a room for my own but had to share one.
-> I didn't have any room for my own, so had to share one. ( The conjunction of "but" looks odd. Am I right ?)

[2] I don't agree the people who say women should stay at home.
-> I don't agree with the people who say women should stay at home. ( Am I right ?)

[3] I was far too upset and emotional to make a reasonable decision.
-> I was too far upset and emotional to make a reasonable decision. ( I'm not sure about mine. Just "too upset and emotional to make ~"? )

[4] Stricter punishments may help to prevent society from serious crime.
-> Stricter punishments may help preventing society from serious crime. ( Am I right ?, In fact I don't understand my self why I want to use "preventing", but I felt it like that)

[5] I'd rather prefer just to lie on the beach.
-> I'd prefer just to lie on the beach ( Am I right ?)

[6] Since that journey, I never sailed again.
-> Since that journey, I've never sailed again.

[7] It was very long day for children.
-> It's a very long day for children.

[8] Jane told me she was going to divorce.
-> Jane told me she was going to divorce him or Jane told me they was going to divorce. ( Am I right ?)
