Parsing technique

Hi Y'all

I'm doing quite a bit of parsing at the moment. I print off sentences that I've typed and parse them with a pen. The problem is that I end up with quite a mess with brackets and underlines and circles everywhere.

Has anyone encountered a notation standard for parsing? Something that might be on the internet somewhere? I'm talking about standard symbols and/or abbreviations. I don't really mind developing my own system, but I won't reinvent the wheel if I don't have to.
