Right, I didn't mean I should substitute any of the actual words; I meant "what should go into the brackets where there are now three question marks?" I guess it should be like this then: [as (AdvP functioning as premodifier )]. I had this idea that the first and the second as "go together" though, in much the same way as, for instance, more...than? So that as an angel would be a PP complementing the first as, and that as... as an angel would thus be a discontinuous AdvP, functioning as a modifier of cute, where the first as would be the head of the discontinuous AdvP, and the PP headed by the second as would be a complement of the first as. But this is wrong then?
