AnonymousNext to the bed - an adverbial.
An adverbial is a modifier of a verb or a supplement attached to a clause, and is always optional. This PP is an obligatory (locative) complement of be.

However, your teacher will expect 'adverbial', Anon, which is what it still is for some grammarians.

But who said Anon was studying for an exam in the first place, or even had a teacher? They could just interested in grammar analysis, and if that’s the case, then they should know that ‘adverbial’ is inappropriate for describing the function of the phrase in question.

Aspara Gus But who said Anon was studying for an exam in the first place, or even had a teacher?
No one. But on this site I'll bet you'd be correct at least 95% of the time if you assumed that.
