Parkinson's meltdown

Hi

His body trembling as though he was in the throes of a Parkinson's meltdown.

I understand he was trembling as though he was fighting with .... (what does "meltdown" mean here?)

Top answer

Meltdown comes from the nuclear power industry, and refers to the situation when the reactor goes out of control, and the core heats up to the melting temperature, destroying the plant and releasing radiation into the environment. It is, by analogy, any destructive, cataclysmic, and catastrophic event.

You may be right, but I've always thought of "being in the throes of" as a very one-sided fight.

I'll have to check it, but I see the man's position in the "fight" as completely passive, rather than "fighting with . . . ."
