A parking lot is a piece of property with markings of lanes and slots where people park their cars. They are located near shopping, restaurants, and work places. Contrast that with parking garage which is a building (usually multistory) for parking, or individual parking spaces .on the street. If there is room for only two cars, this is not a parking lot, but two parking spaces.
