Parked his car and went after ...

Can I say,

He parked his car and went after his dog with an umbrella. He called his pet dog, but it ran further, so Mr Lee gave up because it was raining heavily.

Top answer

This is good. Usually you name someone the first time you mention them, and thereafter use "he" or "she". Also, you usually give the fullest description of something (here the pet dog) the first time you mention it, and, if necessary, abbreviate it on subsequent mentions, rather than the other way around.

  • This is good.

  • So, while what you wrote is not wrong, it might be better to say: Mr Lee parked his car and went after his pet dog with an umbrella.
