Grammar

Parenthetical Tense

Tom, who was very much like an athlete, has won 10 gold medals.

Tom, who is very much like an athlete, has won 10 gold medals.

Tom, who has been very much like an athlete, has won 10 gold medals.

I'm curious to know if these are all grammatical.

They are correct grammar, but sound very peculiar. Why would you say that someone who has won 10 gold medals is ' like an athlete'? A native speaker would more naturally say that Tom is like an athlete.
