Parentheses and complete sentences

Dear Teachers,

Sentence #1 He was happy (and had good reason to be).

Rule#1: Sentence fragment inside brackets, so period comes AFTER brackets.

Sentence #2: The town thought he was religious. (He was an atheist.)

Rule #2: Complete sentence inside bracket, so period comes inside brackets.

Sentence #3: The town thought he was religious (he was an atheist), kind (he was a wife beater), and rich (he was in debt).

Is sentence #3 correct as it is even though there are complete sentences inside all three brackets? I'm assuming rule #2 doesn't apply here? Need your insights on this, please.

Thanks,

AJ
