Actually, I suppose, that I understand everything or almost everything, I'm just curious how to say the same, but in simpler terms.1. Most divinatory systems contain some sort of element of "chance." This determines which tools - in this case, stones - will be available to help us unlock the secrets of tomorrow. Pulling a stone at random from a bag, shuffling tarot cards.......2. The future isn't predetermined. If you see something that bothers you, change it through magic! If an unreasonably rosy picture is presented to you, you might question yourself: am I reading my desires into this? Am I properly utilizing the system? Is this system appropriate for me? (In other words, does it speak to my psychic mind?)3. Part two (of this book) can be read straight through or used for reference as you discover new stones.4. Obsidian is effective when carried or used in protective rituals. One involves surrounding a white candle with four obsidian arrowheads that each point to one of the directions. This sets up aggressive energies that guard the place in which it is set up. --- How is that possible that "aggressive energies" can guard???That's it for the time being. Pulling a stone at random from a bag, shuffling tarot cards.. (Actually, the existing terms are pretty simple. It's the message that seems complex.) There's a bit of irony in using chance to predict the future. The future is unknown to us. It's liquid. We want to make it solid. But instead of using a direct method (eg., science) we use an indirect one, letting the unknow (chance) predict the unknown (the future). I think the assumption is that we're letting some unseen hand (which we're willing to trust) influence the shuffling of the deck.
2. The future isn't predetermined. If you see something that bothers you, change it through magic! If an unreasonably rosy picture is presented to you, you might question yourself: am I reading my desires into this? Am I properly utilizing the system? Is this system appropriate for me? (In other words, does it speak to my psychic mind?) There's an old expression, "She looks at the world through rose-colored glasses." She sees things only the way she wants them to be. But she should wake up to reality and take the glasses off. If you think your "stones" are painting too good a picture, you may ask, "Am I using them correctly, or only seeing what I want to see?"

3. Part two (of this book) can be read straight through or used for reference as you discover new stones. A reference book is like the phone book, or a dictionary, or encyclopedia. You would not normally read it from cover to cover, as you would a novel, or possibly a text book. The author suggests you may approach "part two" either way, as a novel or as an encyclopedia. In the latter case, when you think you've discovered (on your own) new ways to predict the future ("stones"), look to see what "part two" has to say about your "new method."

--- How is that possible that "aggressive energies" can guard??? Think of "agressive" as pro-active. Think of the science fiction "protective force field," which nothing can penetrate. But these energies do not simply block the would-be intruders; they take them on and destroy them.
