I would like to know if the following paraphrases are adequate:
Sentence 2 Original: The world is set up to where you’ve got to read and write to be able to function in it.
Sentence 2 Paraphrase (A): The world is organized for literate people who can operate in it.
Sentence 2 Paraphrase (B): Modern life is organized for literate people who can operate in it.
Sentence 2 Paraphrase (C): Modern life requires that people are literate so they can navigate through it.
I feel that use of the word "world" in paraphrase (A) is appropriate because you can't really change it; however, I had second thoughts about this, and for this reason I changed "world" to "modern life." According to rules of paraphrasing there are certain words from the original sentence that you can't really change if you want to retain the main message of the sentence. Nonetheless, I feel that "modern life" can be a good substitute for "the world" and it does not change the main message of the original sentence.
What do you think? please let me know.
