Parallelism

They can each slaughter around 150 animals a day, packing and freezing the meat and salting the skins for export.

I found this line in BBC news.My question is why " packing, freezing and salting" is here? If I say-" They can each slaughter around 150 animals a day , pack and freeze the meat and salt the skins for export". What's the difference between 2 sentences?
