"After we spoke with some with some locals, and the latter exchanged impressions with some of their acquaintances, we managed to get the information we needed to orient ourselves during our journey."
Notes: By «the latter', I mean 'the locals'; and by 'to orient ourselves', I mean in order to know what way we should take in order to get to our destination.
