Paper on Fashion related topic

Hello, I am starting to write a paper for my English course that is a first person account on being a sports fan. The most important point I am supposed to express in the paper is it's relation to fashion as an identity. Answering such questions as: How did you feel when wearing your sports teams jersey and why is it acceptable to paint yourself with the team colors, etc. I was wondering if anyone was familiar with these such term papers and would be able to give me a few tips on how I could make it interesting. As a side note, most of this paper will reflect my preteen years up to my teenage years.
