Pant as a noun

Hi.

I was reading one article from Yahoo, I came across pant instead of pants. I wonder if the singular form is correct too or it was just a typo.

Here is the link, the word pant appears at the end of the first paragraph.

Thanks for your time and help

The singular "pant" is pretty much restricted to use in the clothing business and in trendy fashion magazine articles. You can go into a clothing shop and ask to see a pair of pants and they'll ask you what sort of pant you had in mind. They'll show you a pair and claim that it is a fine pant worth your consideration.

  • All pretty silly, but 'pant' is used in those cases.
  • We ordinary people always say "pants".

The same goes for British English, where we say trousers rather than pants.

A clothing salesman might say 'This is a very finely-tailored trouser, sir'.

Hi,

The use of that word in that way makes me think the writer may not be a native speaker.
