Pair of points

"Find the distance between a pair of points ."
Is the sentence correct ?
Shouldn't it be "Find the distance between two points or two pairs of points" ?

It's not wrong to speak of 'a pair of points', but it sounds odd and uncommon.
We normally just speak

"between" is always used with two or more nouns as in "between A and B", but here "a pair of points" is acting as a single noun. Is that why my original sentence seems awkward ?
