Painted by John

This is the best painting I have seen painted by John.

Can this sentence be used instead of both:
a-This is the best painting painted by John I have seen .
and:
b-This is the best painting I have seen John paint. (I saw the process of painting and not merely the end result.)

Gratefully,
Navi.
