Hello, I would like to ask you whether the sentence Everytime I was painting this room I used the same colour is correct or if past simple must be used after everytime - Everytime I painted this room I used the same colour.

Thank you for your answer

To my ear, the past simple is the natural choice. A native speaker would not use the past continuous. But I'm not prepared to say it's incorrect.

  • To my ear, the past simple is the natural choice.

  • Present perfect would be okay too: Every time I have painted this room I have used the same color.
  • I think it's fully as natural as the simple past.

I think it's fully as natural as the simple past. (It's what I would use.)
