pail/bucket

Hello! What is the difference between pail and bucket?

Top answer

In my dialect there is no difference. We tend to use "bucket", but "pail" is understood and doesn't sound strange. There are some fixed forms with "pail", for example the garbage pail, which has a lid, and the lunch pail, which rarely has the form of a bucket.
