Paid under the table

Hey my EnglishForward friends,

Please what does it mean if I say about someone that he is being paid under the table? It doesn't sound me like an idiom, but who knows..Maybe I'm blind, but I didn't find it at the freedictionary..:-(. But I'm sure that you native speakers know the meaning....thx.
