Anon, it's comprised of two parts, fastened together at one end. The first part is a piece of metal or hard plastic covered with leather, more or less paddle shaped, about the size of your hand. When I started reading the thriller it had a promissing start, but it turned out to be quite predictable. The story is told in such details that I wonder whether it had been written for reading or watching it on the screen. Characters are not completely flat, so it's OK, I guess.
