Pack on lbs

Hi,

I packed on 10 pounds in a month by eating before bed.

Does this sentence sound OK?

I'd appreciate an answer.

Thanks for the reply. But I want to use the phrasal verb "pack on". I believe they can be interchangeably used.

They can not, in the sense that it sounds weird..perhaps, "I (now) pack 10 extra pounds since i started eating right before going to bed one month ago."

For formal and literal English , "gained 10 pounds.." is good English.

"Packed on pounds..." is more of a amphetic way to mean "gained 10 pounds" colloquially

Only in the way that it is way more informal to use "pack on" and that doing so may make some specific sentence structures sound strange (idiomatic error)..

Thank you for the help, DE. I have one more question, though.

ex1) Leonardo DeCaprio packed on the pounds to play 'J. Edgar'.

ex2) These 10 foods, although nutritious, can still pack on the pounds.

Could you explain why the definite article "the" is present in these sentences?
