Tough-looking men carrying concealed rifles showed up from time to time at Sierra’s Chicago
apartment—men whom one of his children described as “father’s banditos.” Sierra, who frequently packed his own gun, even when taking his young granddaughter to the zoo one day, continued to travel widely well into the 1970s, including to Chile.
