Ozymandias

Hi

This is a question on the poem Ozymandias:

I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal these words appear:
“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

The question is where is the poem set in................

a) the wilderness

b) an ancient land

c) a desert

I think the answer is c becaue it is there the statue of of Ozymandias is now. However I am not sure as theree is so a mention of antique land in the poem.

why can't it be the antique land? It is not mentioned anywhere that the antique land no longer exists and that it has turned into a desert. Maybe the desert is a part of the antique land.

So i think the answer can be either the antique land or the desert.

I don't agree.

The traveller is from an antique land, and he describes a desert scene, which is the main setting of the poem.

Reading between the lines, I assume that the traveller was describing a scene in his home land, one that he was very familiar with. Of course,

Your explanation has sentences which contradict your answer. You have said that the traveller is from an antique land. In the next sentence you have said that traveller describes a scene in his homeland ( which is the antique land ). So the answer is the antique land.

Sorry, I said that one might assume that he is talking about his homeland, or some other place he has travelled through and seen.
