oxidans

Can you please, check it. Especially the highlighted parts?

Oxidans are today added to the petrol to increase the octane number and impact, and these are ethanol, methanol, tertiar-butil-alcochol and methil-tertiar-butil-ether (MTBE), especially in reformulated petrol. The amount of oxydans added to the petrol varies to a great extent.

Here is a good link which eplains this idea simply:

Alan.esmethyl-tertiary-butyl-ether (MTBE)
The correct old-fashioned names are (no hyphens, separate words):
tert-butyl alcohol
methyl tert-butyl ether

IUPAC Rule C21: functional name and radical are separate words

Thank you Alan and Kajjo.

Alan, you have omitted impact and put the phrase prevent knocking. Is it the same? I guess impact doesn't exist?

'Impact' doesn't make sense in this sentence. I'm guessing but the whole idea of this bit of text is about adding things to ' prevent knocking'.

'Knocking' is when the petrol ignites a fraction of a second before the plug sparks and so makes a slightly early 'bang'or if you like 'impact.

i can't see it being anything else.

I don't know, but that will be another thing I will discuss with the author. I know the lady who wrote it, so it won't be a problem.

I appreciate your help.
