"Owing to" vs "Due to"

Hi

Is there any difference between "owing to" and "Due to"?

1) He didn't come owing to illness.

2) He didn't come due to illness.

I think I can also use "because of" here.

Thanks for your time...

Tom

All three strike me as okay. "owing to" is probably the least common in this context.
