OWE IT TO DO ST

I don't understand the meaning of OWE in the sentences I found in a dictionary:

1/ I can't go. I owe it to him to stay.

2/you owe it to yourself to get some professional help

3/ She would have to send a letter . She owe it to the family

4/You owe it to your staff to be honest with them

Please explain the structure " owe it to st/sb to verb "to me .

Thanks in advance

I'll let you do the thinking and the work for the others.
It's just adaptation.
You must do something yourself.
