Grammar

Overwhelming me VS overwhelming for me.

Hello Again ^^;

A : were there many attendees at your lecture?

B : Yes. It was _________________. I wasn't prepared for such a massive turnout.

(a) a little overwhelming for me.

(b) a little overwhelming me.

The Answer is (a)

I guess overwhelming is Adjective. so "for" is needed.

But

overwhelm is also Verb. so I think "was overwhelming" can have Objective.

Is (b) right?

If not, why can I use (b) sentence. Please help T.T

If you want to use the verb overwhelm , you need to place the adverb a little after the verb, thus: It was overwhelming me a little. Even so, the verb overwhelm is not used much in the progressive tenses (those with -ing ), so the sentence above, though grammatically correct, is not very idiomatic. CJ
